The purpose of the Ward Panel is set out in the constitution, adopted on 9th January 2008 which states "To be representative of the local community in managing community safety with a view to improving the quality of life to those who live, work or visit the ward, this to be underpinned by the use of regular public consultations." In essence, the SNT is required to work with a panel that is representative of all of the residents and workers in the ward and to consult with the panel with regards to the policing needs of the ward. To see the full constitution, please CLICK HERE.
This doesn't mean that the Ward Panel has operational control over the day-to-day policing within the ward; this still rests with the Ward Sergeant working with the Sector Inspector and the Borough Senior Management Team. What is does mean is that the Ward Sergeant meets regularly with the Ward Panel and invited guests to discuss and set the forthcoming strategies in the form of PSPs or targets, with the SNT then striving to manage the tactical implementation of the PSPs through their usual chain of command. For the current PSPs, please CLICK HERE.
The Ward Panel meets six times a year at locations around Edgware Ward, usually on the second Wednesday of each odd month. The first meeting of the year, usually on the second Wednesday in January, is the AGM, which is open to the public. This meeting elects the Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary, these posts being filled for 2008 by Morton, Laurence and Shirley.
If you live or work in Edgware Ward and would like to join the Ward Panel, or feel you can assist the Ward Panel in its work, please telephone the Ward Sergeant, who will put you in touch with the Panel Chair.
